Six Sigma E-Learning

The definition of e-Learning, or electronic learning online is
the act, process, or experience of gaining knowledge or skill
by electronic means. Ok, now that we know what it is, how can
you use online e-Learning to improve your business? Assuming you
are using Lean and/or Six Sigma to address improving the results
or big "Y"s of your business, one of the inputs or "X"s is "effective
training". The computer based training or CBT delivery method
of online Six Sigma e-Learning offers a number of advantages to
augment traditional classroom based training. SBTI's Lean Six
Sigma e-Learning online presents the same course content as our
classroom training but delivered on the student's computer over
the network. There are advantages to this delivery method for
both the company and the student:
| What e-Learning is. |
What e-Learning is not. |
| A way to accelerate classroom learning and projects |
A replacement for Lean Six Sigma classroom training. |
| A vehicle to drive culture change and Lean Six Sigma buy-in |
A replacement for strong leaders with a clear vision |
| A tool to reinforce Lean Six Sigma tools and principles |
A replacement for mentoring and coaching |
| A cost effective approach to fundamental Lean Six Sigma
education |
A silver bullet for organizational development |
During the initial launch of a Lean Six Sigma initiative,
classroom training of Black Belts and Green Belts is the best
method to insure initial success. E-Learning courses such as Lean
Six Sigma Overview, White Belt and Yellow Belt training can help
change the culture and make Black Belts and Green Belts more effective.
After a company has successfully completed several classes of
Black Belts, it has developed enough infrastructure to support
e-Learning for Green Belts. General Electric found that Six Sigma
Green Belt e-Learning by itself without the proper mentoring of
an instructor is just not effective.
Company Benefits:
Since the student takes the online Six Sigma e-Learning at a time
and place of their choosing, the company saves money on travel
and living expenses. In addition, scarce classroom space is not
required. Once a company has its own Master Black Belts, it saves
classroom time of these MBBs so they can work on big return projects.
New employees can be trained with e-learning in Six Sigma or Lean
Sigma immediately, without having to wait for course availability.
Black Belt project meetings run more efficiently because team
members are knowledgeable about Lean Six Sigma tools and concepts.
1. Significantly reduced Lean Sigma training costs
2. Accelerated Six Sigma program results through blended training
options
3. Accelerated Lean Six Sigma culture change through consistent
education across the business
Student Benefits: Students can fit the coursework into their daily
schedules when it is convenient for them and has the least impact
on their other responsibilities. Since the material is self-paced,
the students can absorb the learning at their own rate.
Students benefit from:
1. 24/7 access to cutting edge Lean Six Sigma materials
2. Multi-sensory curriculum designed to cover 80% of all learning
styles
3. Access to the best instructors in the most organized format
SBTI's Online Lean Sigma e-Learning Offerings:
SBTI has a number of online courses to help in the successful
deployment of your Lean Six Sigma deployment. To that end, we have teamed up with The Quality Group (TQG) to deliver our e learning courses using OpusWorks™ software. The courses are
designed to cover key levels of your organization so that no one
is left out of the initiative: Lean Six Sigma Overview: Intended
for all employees to create awareness in the organization for
the need for change. White Belt (Project Team part-time Support):
This six-hour course is intended for team members who will be
working on projects led by a Black Belt. Customers who have deployed
this training experience more effective team meeting because the
Black Belt does not spend 40% of their meeting time answering
questions about the basics of the methodology. Yellow Belt (Team
Member): Yellow Belts are trained online for 14 hours in non-statistical
tools such as Process Mapping, Cause and Effect Matrix and Failure
Modes and Effect Analysis. These tools allow Yellow Belts to apply
their e-Learning as active participants in contributing to Six
Sigma projects with the mentoring of the Black Belt. Green Belt
(Hybrid Belt Training): The Green Belt course consists of 18 hours
of online training and one week of either Webex or classroom training
with an instructor. This second week can be with the statistical
software package of your choosing: 1) Minitab, 2) JMP or 3) SBTI's
own Excel based XLGB. SBTI Certification Testing: SBTI’s
GB certification test follows the DMAIC roadmap to gauge the understanding
of a belt in key areas of the six sigma methodology. It has about
137 questions in 17 different focus areas. A GB is required to
submit a complete project report along with a letter from champion
(manager) showing business results before taking the test. SBTI's
electronic Black Belt certification test has over 165 questions
in 19 different focus areas with questions drawn randomly from
each area. Results are scored and tracked with convenient score
reports.
